Poker chip sets have for the most part become a commodity.
You can find a set for about $20.00 on Ebay these days. Images
of these poker chip sets look good, and they may even seem ok
when you first open your package. But usually it's not until
later that you find out that the $20.00 poker chip sets are not
what they seemed. In this article, I'll talk about poker
chip sets and give you some guidance when making a purchase.
Poker Chip Sets - Composite or Clay
First decide if you want composite or clay poker chips. There is
a difference between these types of poker chip sets, to some
it's important, to others it's not. I would recommend always
getting sample poker chips and evaluating them first hand.
You'll be surprised at how many decent composite poker chip sets
there are out there. I've recently had some really cool
composite 3-D holographic chips sent to me, they're awesome.
Poker Chip Sets - Weight of Chips
Chip weights vary, and most like poker chip sets
that are between 12 and 14 grams. The higher end poker chip sets
(Paulson or Nevada Jacks) have chips they weigh around 10 grams.
So it's personal preference. and again, get samples of either
the composite poker chips or
clay poker chips before
investing in a nice poker chip set. Most online retailers of
poker chips sets will offer sample packages, it's well worth
getting these.
Cases for Poker Chip Sets
Most poker chip sets come in aluminum carrying
cases. These may all look alike, but just be careful. You
usually wont be able to get a sample case. But just make sure to
ask, if they don't say, that the felt is glued and sewn in to
the interior of the case.
Poker chip sets are heavy (18 -20 lbs), and the
cases won't withstand the weight if they're made cheaply. Ask if
the chip holders are recessed to fit the chip, this is important
for a snug fit. Poker chips sets that have chips that do not fit
snugly inside the case will move around, and the case will
eventually break down.
If your interested in something nicer, perhaps a
case that will look great on your entertainment center or in
your living room, poker chip sets are available in nice wood
cases. There are antique oak style, mahogany and gloss cases
available. Check out our

Hopefully this article will steer you in the
right direction and help you make the best decision when looking
for poker chip sets and supplies.
